dustingjour537:

I was able to photograph the Gamecocks football game against Auburn on Saturday, October 1. This was the second game I’ve been able to shoot, and it was just as fun.

Like I’ve said, I’m not the biggest sports fan, but I enjoy going to games, and even more when I have a camera or two with me.

In addition to my Canon 1000D (Rebel XS), I checked out a 20D from the school, along with a 28mm and 70–200mm lenses. The photos of the touchdown are examples of why it is best to have at least two cameras when shooting a game. I’m not 100% happy with those, but the zoom would have been even worse to try that close.

I am satisfied with what I got from the game. I try to avoid cliché photos whenever possible, so there are even more chances at sporting events. I think the shots of Spurrier with the ref, and Byrd shaking hands do the best job of recording this game. I think that was the most memorable moment; everyone feeling like they got cheated out of a field goal at the last second. On the sidelines, everyone was kind of confused if we were allowed to rush the field or not since Auburn was already all over the field. Some event staffers were telling everyone to get off the field when I got that shot of Spurrier.

These next two shots are more of a question as to which is better. I wish the players were in focus, but I really like looking at everyone’s face in the crowd at that key moment, so I tried out both crops from the same image.
